Farting IS nasty. You shouldn't allow your bodily functions to be heard and smelled by others, especially with a grin or a chuckle. There is a way to 'pass gas' quietly and hopefully if smelly, somewhere where it will not offend others. It is possible to make the effort to 'release it in a more private place, even a few feet from others. If you don't make the effort and you knew it was coming, then you are just plain rude and inconsiderate of others.
