It's becoming more and more accepted as entertainment, but less and less accepted as a means of solving problems. In other words, you see more violence in movies, but there is less tolerance for police violence, military violence, etc.

Violence has always been accepted. Look in a history book, it is ridden with violence. The ancient Greeks and Romans would have gladiators fight to the death in front of everyone. Violence is nothing new.
