Why is Orange such an uncomfortable color?

I feel very comfortable in burnt orange. Bright orange is just...yeah...uncomfortable. It's kind of like bright yellow, I find that rather uncomfortable, too. Maybe it's because we think of the sun when we see the two colors...and the sun IS uncomfortable to look at for most people. Perhaps it translates into every day life.

I never really thought about it being uncomfortable.....that being said I have nothing orange that I wear/or would wear. Maybe it's because no other word rhymes with it.....just a thought :o)

I find orange uncomfortable because it is the color of Clemson people. We are the Gamecocks and Clemson is our arch rival. They also mix orange with the purple and it looks putrid in the stands on game day!!

I rather like orange if it's not too bright. Then it only looks good on pumpkins!

I like orange and as long as it's not neon I can ussually wear it... but I know a lot of people that say they can't... it's weird...

It's an uncomfortable colour? Perhaps bright orange, but thats because its bright. Same goes for bright pink, bright green, bright yellow and so on.

Dunno, but where I used to live some new people moved in and painted their house pumpkin orange...UGH it was ugly.

That my girlfriends favorite color she has pants that are orange and one of her swimsuits is orange. She looks good in orange but then, a reason could be shes black. Orange and black always seem to go nicely together. So it being uncomfortable I dont really think it is.

I really like orange. It's great in nature along with purple as in a field of lupine and poppies. And as a teenager I painted my room bright yellow and had everything else orange:-) It makes me happy and reminds me of flowers.

Maybe because it is such an energetic and warm color. There is no peace and quiet in it! I agree with your seeing it as uncomfortable. I like it, but I couldn't sit comfortably in an orange room. Peach, yes, if it is subtle. But not bright or dark orange. Red has the same effect on me. I won't shop Target stores for that reason. I get so tense and edgy that I feel like screaming at the store clerks!

It probably has something to do with Halloween. It's ingrained in our heads that orange is great one day a year.
