I've both bartended and managed bars in Washington, DC for years. I think these courses really only excel in relieving earnest people from their money. I think the only way to learn is to begin waiting, bussing and then, bartending. From the bottom up... Any person can cook a meal by reading recipes. To be a good bartender, you need to have personality, a willingness to do a lot of manual labor and a true love of interacting with all sorts of people to really excel in the bar business.
