  • Drinking and driving is wrong and very dangerous to the driver and all concerned. They're a good idea.
  • They are a great idea. Unless you are the moron behind the wheel. It helps prevent a lot of accidents.
  • The more the better. I don't want anyone risking my life on the road. Most of the people who complain about being pulled over because the police aren't out catching murderers usually don't take the time to realise your greatest personal risk is on the road due to bad and imparied drivers.
  • They're better than fatal DUI accidents, aren't they? I'll take a few minutes happily to catch folks who are driving drunk and liable to kill themselves or someone else.
  • They do it to keep rich bitches like me off the road and on house arrest.
  • They save lives.
  • They are fantastic. Hooray for saving lives!
  • They should be numerous, random, unpublicised and any offenders discovered should be beaten to a pulp by the side of the road and then taken and jumped on repeatedly by very large family members of those who have lost loved ones to drunk drivers.
  • While I'm all for getting (and keeping) drunk drivers off the road, I'm not sure how I feel about sobriety checkpoints and here's why; I recently had to stop at a sobriety checkpoint. It was after work and I'd had several beers (2, maybe 3), definitely enough to put me over the legal limit. The officer took my license, glanced briefly at it, asked me "Had anything to drink today?" to which I responded "No", then he handed my license back to me and off I went. At no time during this exchange did the officer EVER look at me. He glanced at my license for what must have been half a second, but he never looked at ME. Never looked into or at the car at all, either. Now, I'm not an expert, but it seems to me that'd it be kind of difficult to deduce a person's sobriety from looking at their driver's license. I guess I should be grateful, since I could have walked away with several charges that day (DUI, possession of marijuana, and maybe more) but I can't help thinking that this terrific initiative we are supposedly taking to get drunk drivers off the road is more for "show" than anything.
  • The more, the better. If there is only one drunk (drinking) driver caught, that is one less potential killer on the road. My son was one of those "I have only had a few, so they can't do anything", types. First DUI, he was slapped on the wrist..short suspension and a fine. Second DUI, slapped harder..bigger fine. Third DUI, they nailed his ass. He is now a convicted felon who spent 10 months as a guest of the state. He now has his license back and not only does he NOT drink and drive...he very rarely drinks at all. He is not a bad guy and I love him dearly, but thank goodness he was stopped before he killed himself and/or someone else.
