The best metal there is is Marilyn Manson (the older stuff, anyway). I don't know if you want your 12-year-old listening to that, though. Maybe System of a Down.

Papa Roach, Disturbed, Seether, Puddle Of Mudd, and Shinedown are great bands.

I think that 12 is great age to dicover music. Some bands that might interest you are: Killswitch engage Summer below 40 (great, great singer) Guano apes Ill Nino Godsmack Quiet riot W.A.S.P. (allthough this might be a bit to explicit) Deftones Rage against the machine Stone sour Tool Type-o-negative Edge of sanity (goth-rock but great bass, melodies and singer) dark tranquility (idem) Good luck and enjoy!
