Its a scientific art, or perhaps an artistic science!

It's both. You have to know the technical details, but then you have to be able to make it work. For example, you should be able to direct and plan, but you should also be able to make different snap decisions if the plans change. There's a science to the technical stuff, but an art to making it happen.

I wouldn't rate it that highly on the scale of human intelligence.

It's an art...In science there is always a right and wrong answer. In art there is no right or wrong...like war...there is no right or wrong war.
