  • You cannot know what to do when told to turn North unless you know which way you are already facing. If you are facing East, North is to your left; if you are facing Wes it is to your right; if you are facing South it is behind you. However, even supposing you know which way you are facing now, there is a trick of rotating your mental position in your head which some people do much better than others. Experiments have shown that, on average, men do it better than others. However, it is a skill that can be learned, so just because you cannot do it now, it doesn't mean you cannot learn it. You can do it with computer based tests that require you to find matching images when one has been rotated. Or you can go out into town or country with a map and practice.
  • When all else fails, buy a compass. a compass always points to the north. Also, try to remember this: The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Before setting out on a trip, always remember which direction is north. keeping this in mind, will always steer you in the right direction.
  • Knowing my interstates helps me. Routes with odd numbers run north-south. Routes with even numbers run east-west. For north-south routes, the lowest numbers are in the west. For east-west routes, the lowest numbers are in the south. (assuming you are in the US)
  • I am so bad at directions, justlet me know what color the house is I am going to,if there is a gas station on the corner and its name, and oh, dont forget the drug stores, sorry I cant help you, I feel for you
  • something that might help may be if u think of where you are geographically...for example, we are in california so if i think of where certain locations are on the map: canada, north; mexico, south; new york, east; hawaii west...this is very general of course, but it helped my little brother out
  • Are you driving in US? There are these little green markers every mile on most roads - you'll see them about two or three up from the ground. If you slow down enough to read them (they are only a couple of inches big) they actually tell you which direction you are going.
  • You must not live in Colorado... lol... We use those mountains! They are ALWAYS to the west of us! I was in NY for a few years and felt lost ALL the darn time. I NEED the mountains!!!!
  • There's a theory that all animals have a sense based on ferromagnetic material in the body that it can read to tell direction. Get in touch with your inner magnet maybe?
