  • Isn't the answer obvious?? It's easy. Get a needy breed of dog or trading in yours for a needier model! Most small dog breeds will fit into this category (Maltese etc), and making sure that said needy dog can see your point of entry and exit into the house and thus being needy, said dog will nervously / excitedly / needily (even) wait at afore mentioned entry / exit view-point much like an excitable adult male-human waiting for a peep-show to begin and for the dollar he spent to justify itself (but we won't go to that sad level just yet). As dog is waiting, its neediness will activate feelings of anxiety, excitement and ultimately, encourage bowel movements and in this way, the dog will begin to evacuate its bowels in this area and no other because it will associate its bowel movements with your arrival / departure from the family home - if this is the way you choose to go, it is advisable to interpret the dog's choice to associate your 'movements' with his as a sign of popularity - ie - they poo as a sign of their great affection for you - not because you give them the .. um, poos. Now, if you want a proper answer and trading in your pooch for a needy breed (sorry for the above, and yes, it's hard writing like a nerd who was raised by a pack of wild librarians who although wild, had a vast knowledge of literature and a fantastic collection of books..), read on... We're lucky, our Maltese X, is that needy puppy decribed above and luckily for us, he does his business in only one area - fantastic and easy for cleaning it all up. We did however have incidents with him becoming rebel with a poo and deciding in renegade fashion to poo in places such as right near our back step but we were able to stop him. We bought, placed around the yard where we didn't want him to poo, and lit citronella candles. You can pick them up from your local hardware store (in Australia, we get them from Bunnings - hardware chain, K-Mart etc). Dogs (and I think, Cats) hate Citronella. Also, depending on the size of your pooches, you can section off your yard so that the dogs have one area that's set up for them - it all depends on the reasons for wanting them to do this - we did it cause of how tiny our puppy is, and also how small our backyard is. Goodness, I've written a whole lot and only about 1 sentence was half-useful.. sorry.. Anyway, hope this helps.
  • Simply lead the dog on a leash to the new area where you want your animal to go and do his/her business. Eventually he/her will get the idea. Most animals like to go where they have been before or where another dog has defecated and when they get a smell of that, they will go. So it's up to you to decide where your pooch will go. Be patient.
