  • The expiration date is just when the medicine starts to noticeably lose effectiveness. It doesn't somehow turn into poison.
  • As long as the pump is still working nothing. The expiration date is really about liability, you can no longer sue if something goes wrong. It's not going to break down just because it's expired, it just might eventually.
  • Technically you should not use medication past its expiration date. Expiration dates on meds are there to tell you when the maximum effectiveness of the solution has reached its prime. If you use an inhaler that is a few days past expiration it is fine. When you get into months past the date it may not work as well. You might have to take an extra puff which may not be safe either...you don't want to over medicate either . If it is a year or more past the expiration date I wouldn't take the chance, throw it away and call your doctor for a new prescription. It is always a good idea to have your asthma meds up to date even if you are not having an ongoing problem.
  • You should check with a professional like a pharmacist or doctor. Often expired meds merely just start loosing their potentcy over time, but others may be harmful. I think with inhalers and such usually the only bad thing is that it might be less potent than a fresh one, but I'd at least call the pharmacy and ask them.
