  • This answer is for people in the U.S. First of all I would contact you local mental health association. Most places have mental health services for people who can't afford a private therapist. However there are some other things that can help you cope. Support groups can be a big help and can be found by either calling the local mental health association or if it is availilbe in your area you can try calling 211 (same as 911 but with a 2). That will put you intouch with first call for help which is a referal service for all types of problems. Your primary care physican can be another referal source. It is also a good idea to get a physical b/c sometimes depression is caused by other medical problems. Think about what you were doing the last time you were very happy. My activities for instance are walking on the beach, singing in private, and being with children and animals. If possible try to start doing that activity again. Go out and help others. When I get involved with helping others it helps me forget my troubles and it makes me feel good. Hence part of the reason that I vol. at a Children's Hospital. I get to do an activity I enjoy and at the same time help others. For some people reading self-help books helps. You may want to try books on cognitive therapy which can be helpful for mood issues. Because you don't mention any details such as severity or other symptoms I had to give you a generalized answer. If you have anyother questions you can always comment or post them.
