What is done with milk, that is taken off the shelf and outdated? do they make cottage cheese and sour cream with it?

I think they just throw it away.

It goes back to the producer who may use it for animal food or toss it out. A lot of out of date milk in CA used to be just poured into the rivers and sewers. They cannot use it for human food. Milk for cheese and sour cream comes from a much fresher source.

It is either garbage or sometimes farmers will collect it and use it in their animal feed.

Ew, they make cottage cheese out of old milk? Note to self: Never eat cottage cheese again.
