  • Dave McKay was the first Canadian born player to play for the Toronto Blue Jays, when he played for them in their inaugural season, 1977. In fact, he was the only Canadian-born player to have played for the Blue Jays until Paul Hodgson appeared in 20 games for them in 1980. McKay spent considerable amounts of time at second base, third base and shortstop in 1977, although in his first game with the Blue Jays, he played third base. McKay played with the Blue Jays from 1977 to 1979, being released by them following the 1979 season. A poor hitter, he finished his career with a 21 home runs, 170 RBI and a .229 batting average. In total, he played eight seasons from 1975 to 1982. Since retiring from baseball, he has coached in the Major Leagues. Currently he is the first base coach for the St. Louis Cardinals. He is also the father of Cody McKay, a baseball player who appeared in 37 games in the Majors. Check out this link for his career statistics: http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/mckayda01.shtml
