The fact that he works for the Administration doesn't mean that he is a bad person. He has spent a lifetime working for our country. To his credit, he himself says the answer is not with the army, but through politics.

FWIW, here's what Petreaus' immediate superior thinks of him...:-D....: "Fallon told Petraeus [in March] that he considered him to be “an ass-kissing little chickensh*t” and added, “I hate people like that”, the sources say. That remark reportedly came after Petraeus began the meeting by making remarks that Fallon interpreted as trying to ingratiate himself with a superior." http://thinkprogress.org/2007/09/12/webb-fallon/

JMac - Bush and his flunkies saying "Stay the course" umpteen gazillion times and then Bush saying on camera "We never were 'stay the course'" is not left-wing, right-wing, or any wing. It is what it is. . With respect to Fallon, Petraeus, et. al., I don't have in-depth multi-source knowledge about them because it's irrelevant. The 'surge' was (ostensibly) intended to provide increased security so that Iraq could make progress to political reconcilliation. That didn't happen and I'm not in favor of more Americans dying while waiting for it to happen. Either win the war (raise taxes, reinstate the draft, send 500k+ troops to Iraq, etc.) or get out. Asking American troops to die just to they'll still be in Iraq when Bush leaves office is disgusting.
