This evening (9/21/07), water fell from the sky here in Southern California. Can someone explain why this happened and if it is harmful?...:-D...

At a high enough altitude liquid water freezes into water vapour and sometimes into ice. At the right inclination of warm draughts the watr vapour/ice melts into liquid water. Thus we have rain.

Yes, it is very harmful. What you are getting is nearly pure dihydrogen monoxide (DHMO). This is really nasty stuff that you should try to avoid and, unfortunately, the government is ignoring this problem because Big Industry makes money contaminating much of what we use with this very dangerous chemical. Surprisingly enough the environmentalist are also ignoring this problem despite the fact that DHMO is by far the most important greenhouse gas. So, you should be very afraid of this stuff. yes, it's extremely harmful. don't go near it, whatever you do! actually it's due to this "water from the sky" that 5½ children, 3 grown-ups and 4 goats die in Sudan every 12,3 minute.
