  • Norway had been consistently ranked #1 according to the UN developed HDI measure, which tracks the key aspects of what is considered standard of living. In the last ranking, however, Iceland took the top spot world-wide, followed closely by Norway.
  • The United Nations has again ranked Norway as having the highest standard of living in the world. Iceland, Australia, Luxembourg, Canada and Sweden follow, while the United States is further down the scale. This annual ranking is based largely on average levels of education and income, combined with expected length of lifetime. Other Nordic countries also ranked high.
