I don't know why i'm so suprised by that kinda question. I thought depression was a well known mental illness and it is hard to believe that some people don't know that.

I don't know what the doctors are saying these days, but everyone gets depressed once in a while. Some people get depressed considerably more often, or a deeper degree of depression, or get depressed about trivial things, and these people have various degrees and diagnoses of clinical depression. Getting depressed occasionally is not a mental illness; life has its ups and downs.

If it is clinical depression yes its a mental illness due to chemical unbalance on the brain and it can be treated with medication.
