I own a computer that has access to wikipedia - but that's it.

I don't see the point in buying encyclopedias, when they get outdated. History is made in some form daily. So the internet works for me, and its basically free..

I thought Encyclopedias were obsolete.

I was giving thought to the Encyclopedia I had in my home growing up. I wondered what it would be like to own one today. The very concept is obsolete. It's good to have a well-stocked library in your home, even if the library consists of two or three shelves. But in the wake of such things as Youtube's instructional capabilities and up to the minute RSS feeds, an encyclopedia would be a waste of space.

Not me - The internet has made them pretty redundant, as long as you know where to look and don't go straight for wikipedia!

Encyclopedias, World Almanacs and most at home reference books are becoming obsolete now that the Internet is providing us with sources like http://www.refdesk.com who are the equivalent of gigantic free Libraries that are constantly being updated, even by the hour. I don't have any Encyclopedias at home because they are unnecessary. Also, "Save a Tree!" The less paper you purchase, the better for the environment. Just think about how many sheets of paper are used to produce one single encyclopedia.

I still have the set my parents had. Makes a good block in my library.
-
Yes, I have a set of Encyclopedias at home, but I seldom use them now.
-
I have the knowdlege of the whole world at my fingertips right now! Who needs an encyclopedia?!?!
