It is somewhat unfair to say that he is uneducated, I am not his greatest fan and he may not be articulate in speech but to accuse him of being uneducated is an insult to him and the people who voted for him!

Presidents each have their own library from Hoover to Clinton. No matter what one thinks of a particular occupant of the office, they deserve some sense of dignity and history as they help define their eras. President Bush was in the office for a hugely active historical time period. He should have the opportunity to present his successes, perhaps some mistakes, whatever, to show the overview of his tenure. This question is probably asked in the spirit of disdain for the President, with hopes of snide remarks about Bush's speaking style and the unpopularity of the war in Iraq. Truly, that is a shallow viewpoint to take where history is concerned. Looking back on history, even unpopular Presidents provided some positive impact and are seen today as noble men who may not have been in sync with their times. This is the case with Herbert Hoover, a man who was widely respected for his prior work in former administrations and who later regained a measure of dignity by helping out future administrations. Similarly, President Nixon is seen today as an extraordinarily intelligent man who did some good things in office but was brought down by his paranoid nature. Presidents are never perfect. Even George Washington had political adversaries, even while he was well-respected personally. We mustn't confuse the frustrations of the moment for the overall judgment of history. Time has yet to evaluate George W. Bush, for his Presidency doesn't expire until January 20, 2009.

I don't like the guy, and I don't think he's the sharpest tack in the pack. However, I don't think it's fair to characterize him as uneducated. I think that every President deserves a library. This one should contain a copy of "My Pet Goat." I have a real problem with the Presidential Library of any president being on the grounds of any institution that is affiliated with religion in any way. (Bush's proposed library is at SMU.) I sure hope that SMU is not the chosen venue for his.

The idea of a library dedicated to the 43rd President of the United States, incurious George, who seems to have little academic interest or aptitude, a man who is notorious for his disinterest in reading, literature, rational thought and scholarship, is ludicrus to say the least, but we shouldn't be surprised that it would have some ideological element attached, like the proposed Institute for the 'Furtherance of Right-wing Republicanism'. Iraq would be my choice for the $8.3 million George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, but they should probably move it somewhere in D.C. -- it'll be a constant reminder to a nation who elected the idiot twice. That said, the G.W. Bush library will undoubtably become an essential center for future scholars uncovering the countless layers of secrecy and deception which were hallmarks of this failed administration.
