This is the study of landscaping with regards to the environment, plants and animals. It is important for many reasons. For instance, in dry climate, you should plant plants that don't require much water otherwise during droughts your garden won't survive without watering. Birds and animals are attracted by specific types of plants. Planting the wrong ones could keep them away. Even insects could be a problem by creating the wrong environment. Mosquitos breed in water. Maybe certain fish or water plants can reduce this problem. You don't necessarily want to use chemicals because they could cause problems for birds that drink from your fountain.
