Because they are stupid enough to think they can. I for one am grateful that most criminals are stupid. If they had any intelligence they would have a job and contribute to society.

It's the thrill of trying and NOT getting caught. It's an exhilarating experience.

I heard that about 10% of criminals in prison are so intelligent they look down on the law while the other 90% are too stupid to look up to it. On the streets I suspect the figures are reversed.
