There was a great game that came out around the same time as Axis and Allies and Conquest of the Empire called, " Broadsides and Boarding Parties" and had two phases of the game, first the ship battle with cannons and moving of the ships, there is one royal naval ship and one pirate ship. You have a board with small ships and two model ships with men and cannons on them and as areas of the ship get hit you remove the men or cannons, etc. Once the ships come together then you slide the big models together and begin moving the men across for hand to hand fighting. It is a blast.
