  • No. The only major changes that have occurred are:- Castling - the king moving two towards the rook and the rook jumps over the king. Lots of caveats. The ability to move a pawn two moves forward as well as just one for its first move. En-passant - The ability to take a pwan that moved two moves forward as if it had only moved one square. Must be done on next move. Other chess variants like Chinese Chess, Japanese chess have different rules. E.g. capturing your opponents piece and then being able ot use it as yours. However none have as fara as I am aware have allowed you to take your own pieces. I cna see where that would be very useful at times - especially when your own pawns are in the way.
  • I saw an old chess puzzle once in which you had to promote to the opposite color knight to win. I think this is before there was a rule saying you couldnt, or it was just a joke puzzle.
