i'd actually like to know this too. ive been hearing that it has estrogen and in large amounts it can affect your hormones. but that might be like large, LARGE amounts. i want to find out more about it but i think that a lot of the negative attention to soy is exaggerated and is only relevant in extreme amounts.

According to this link: http://www.vegetarian-nutrition.info/vn/soy_breast_cancer.php The jury is still out on determining whether soy products are harmful or protective in supplementing the diets of cancer patients and those at risk for getting cancer.

As far as I know there's no danger for women. Soy products increase estrogen levels and I would not recommend that for men. I used to take soy protein supplements but I quit when I made that descovery in "Extreme Muscle Enhancement" by Carlon Colker.

As far as I can tell, the biggest thing is thyroid problems and too much estrogen. But apparently it has also been linked to lethargy and Alzheimer's and possibly a few other things as well. I don't think too much of ANYTHING is good for you.

One of the things that I've heard - and this was from someone who does cancer research - is that some people become so enamored with the health benefits of soy that they go bonkers and start eating/drinking all the soy they can. In light of the fact that it can change levels of hormones, that's not a good idea. Moderation is important. Another thing I've read is that soy does show some ability to ward off cancer but if you already have cancer, it's not a good idea to ingest lots of soy. Soy will probably be one of those things like so many others like oat bran: it turns out not to be a miracle food but it does have its own undeniable benefits.
