While marijuana does not specifically diminish motivation, it is clear that cannabis affects attention and memory... I found this ARTICLE USEFULL http://www.lycaeum.org/drugs.old/plants/cannabis/amotivation.html

it makes it okay to be bored. nothing to do tonight? smoke some pot. dont read a book or go out and socialize with non potheads. the only motivation potheads have is whan the baggie is empty. huh....dirty hippies

I wouldn't know because it brings about motivation for me. It will bring me out of the clouds (ADD) and allow me to focus on a task and actually want to do it whether it be cooking, my job, chores, etc.

I think it really depends on the person and how the THC effects their system. For some, it can increase or decrease one's motivation or not even effect it at all.

There are different strains of cannabis that have different effects. Indica dominant strains have been known by the medical users as pain relieving and causing more of a body high. If someone vaporizes smokes, or eats this type of cannabis odds are they will be sitting on the couch. Sativa dominant strains will give you a cerebral, creative, or more of a head high. *Now having established that, the majority of the marijuana that is on the black market is a hybrid of both designed for mass production, insect resistance, quick maturity, and mostly crop yield. -Less is more. I have found that when I smoke less in one sitting it will not diminish my motivation at all. http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/965383

It depends on the person. I have never found this to be the case myself.
-
it doesn't... it just changes what one is motivated to do! someone on the pot is more likely motivated to: * find something to eat. or a lot of somethings. * take a nice nap * chill out, man... * go meanering with no set purpose * try to figure out new & creative ways to smoke pot * watch "dazed and confused" instead of "platoon" * find a cure for those dry eyes and mouth! * talk about very random subjects * oh, and work on getting more pot

It depends on who you are. Some people want to sit around and watch TV, and others want to chop wood and cook or something.

It never has diminished mine. In fact, before I smoked pot I would get F's in school and even dropped out. My ADD and Dyscalculia made it very difficult to get through life and then I developed GED and Depression. I was eating 5,000 Calories a day, sitting at a desk all day, very unmotivated, hating life, and just eating myself away. I weighed 220 lbs. I am 28 years old. I began smoking Marijuana in November of 2007. Shortly after I joined the gym, and a fitness program, as well as starting a diet, then adding another job, and then adding weekly drum lessons. I've been doin this since Nov of 07. I have more energy then ever before, I appreciate life more, and I have found a way to slow my thoughts down and think methodical. I have found a way to make and achieve goals, including paying off 3 credit cards and losing a bit over 75 lbs. This is a true story, and I am a strong Marijuana Advocate willing to share more if asked.
