50/50.. sometimes its hard to tell if someone is joking or not unless they use consistent emoticons or other symbols to let others know when they are joking.

As long as the people who are posting it are adept at it and the people reading it are intelligent enough to pick up on it.

I agree it depends on the poster's ability to convey the meaning and the reader's ablilty to decipher it as well as the personal taste of each in terms of sense of humor. Example: I posted a question about loving your best friend enough to suck poison out of his/her butt if bitten by a very poisonous snake. I thought this was way too funny. You may not be fazed in terms of humour. Actually I still laugh about it because I'm a graphic person. Spoken words are images to me. Be Blessed!!!

I dont think so.. I think it can lead to problems especially as you are more likely to be misunderstood. but then the repercussions may not be as huge as they may be in real life!

You have to be really careful, when the only clue is the written word. Without facial expression, tone of voice or shared knowledge of personal values to work with, humorous comments can easily be misunderstood. That holds true for any comment, actually, but humor is a "play on words" anyway and is prime for misinterpretation.
