I don't know the factual answer, but if I had to guess, I would say likely maybe 5% have passports.. maybe more these days, but likely not many.

The US Dept estimates 21.7% have passports and demand is overwhelming at this time. The 5% guess is hopelessly outdated. The US Dept estimates within 10 years, 30% of Americans will have a passport. I have had one for years and it's about time to renew it.

Americans are about to enact restrictions on travel that will only allow 22% of americans to eave their country. Today 75% of canadians have passports. I see a future in which americans know less and less about the world outside their borders and become more insular as a result.
