Why would anyone get a tattoo in a foreign language, unless they spoke it and KNEW what it said?

It's mysterious.. But you bring up a cautionary tale for anyone looking to get a tattoo. Just because the guy says it means 'Madman' in Japanese doesn't mean he is deliberately or accidentally putting 'Likes Man Butt' on you, permanently.

Plain and simple, people are too trusting. The funny thing is, that some people get tattooed by people who barely speak ANY language fluently, so what makes them think this person knows what they're doing in a language that they quintessentially have no concept of. It baffles me, really.

It is some thing connected with the sub-conscious mind. You can not apply rules of reason to such things. "Our two minds .... One is an act of the emotional mind, the other of the rational mind. In a very real sense we have two minds, one that thinks and one that feels" (Daniel Goleman, Emotional Intelligence, Bloomsbury Publishing, London, 1996, page 8). This rational mind is also called the faculty of logic and reason. The Upanishads say that these two are opposite in nature.
