  • Be very very careful! There are scammers out there that will sell you guides to "government auctions where you can buy a house for $500!" Big time scam! Most government auctions for homes are properties that went up for sale because of taxes being delinquent and I have never seen them for $500. However if you are willing to put in research and work and have cash available (you need to pay for tax foreclosure properties asap - they are not going to wait to see if you get approved for a mortgage!), you can quite often pick up bargains at tax sales. Don't be taken in by scammers who want to sell you lists of foreclosures or make you pay for information on a website. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
  • You should never have to pay for that kind of information. Check out the US Treasuy's site at http://www.ustreas.gov/auctions/. Be warned, though. houses don't sell for $500. The government isn't stupid (about this, anyway).
  • Call your local county and ask where and when the Sheriff's Sale is taking place - go there and ask more questions.
  • thanks
