I use single when referring to something, and I use double when quoting someone. I live in the USA.

I switch off. Unless it's for a school project then if I'm quoting something it's double. And if it's a quote within a quote single.

I try to use them by correct grammatical usage..double for actual quotes and single for semi quotes, etc..but sometimes I just 'miss'. I am Canadian.

I live in the US where most people use double, but I started using single for some reason. Pretty much the only time I'll use double is if I'm typing out a conversation between two people: 'how are you today?' "Fine thanks"

Double, since I'm in the US, unless it's in a SQL query, in which case it's single. What's up with that, anyway - was Microsoft's SQL language developed in England or something?
