Three of the biggest are trade, international finance and manufacturing. Having the Beatles didn't hurt, either. Countries that want to get rich have to master the secret that the Beatles are a good example of (and so are American computer-software companies:) Export things that never leave the country, such as entertainment and computer programs. The Beatles sold millions of copies of many of their songs, but nothing left England except what came in, computer disks. And Bill Gates has sold the same computer program that is still in his computer tens of millions of times over.
