I was on .5mg Xanax for a while. No weight gain but it put me down like a tranquilizer dart!

Paxil (I think that's how it's spelled) I was on it for about 4 straight years and now I don't need to be on it anymore because most of my panic attacks no longer occur!

Not everyone gains weight from medications...you should try if you are feeling anxious or panic attacks..You can always stop it if you want.

I took Paxil for anxiety. It worked well for me. I did gain a little weight from it but it came right off when I stopped taking it.

me and my mother managed to conquer our panic attacks WITHOUT medication. you do not need it! all we did was, if we felt one coming on, sit in a quiet place for a few minutes, focus on something, and breathe deeply until it passed. now whenever i feel one i can stop it before it takes a hold of me. seriouly i practically guarontee this will work better than any medication dr's can prescribe - plus you feel proud cos you've managed to stop it :-D lol

Prozac is the most widely used as paxil has a nasty habit of causing phsychotic breaks. Just don't let em give you lithium. it's garenteed weight gain, but you also have to ask yourself what is more important getting better and having a normal life again or you weight? I personally am solving my problem with meditation and time.

I took Effexor, worked good. Didn't gain weight, but had absolutely no interest in sex while I took them!

I live in England, U.K., and I have anxiety/panic attack problems also. At the moment I am taking Seroxat tablets. (It also comes in liquid form, but I don't mind taking tablets). The tablets/liquid contain(s) Serotonin, which is a chemical that the brain produces naturally, that helps to relieve anxiety, panic attacks etc. When I initially started to take them, they took a while to take effect, (about a month, I'd say), but after that time, I started to feel the effects. (Less anxiety, less feelings of panic etc.) So far, I do not feel that I have gained an excess amount of weight. So far.....! :-) Seroxat is also known as Paroxetine. I'm not sure whether it's available in the U.S or not, though...

I would recommend Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and see if that works for you. You can try to do it yourself or find a practitioner in your area. You can read up about it here: http://www.emofree.com/ And also download the large manual all about how to do it. There are some videos about it at YouTube to demonstrate how it actually works. It's good for physical problems like pain and allergies and migraines but is excellent for emotional things and phobias. It really does work:-)

I prefer to not take psychosomatic medications that are not prescribed by a psychiatrist (who, by definition, is both a medical doctor and someone who has additional training in treating mental health problems). There are dozens of medications available, and which can be taken in combination. It may well be that you may find one which lessens your anxiety and panic problems, but also generates weight gain as a side effect. If the medication treats your emotional problems effectively, you may find that you will have the mental energy and desire to exercise and change to a diet which will combat the weight gain. Clonazapam (Klonapin), for me, seems effective, and, after a weight gain of approximately 30 lbs., I have gradually lost 20 of those pounds. Once again: do not take medical advice from the "person on the street". You must consult a mental health care professional yourself (a pshychiatrist, as I said, being my preference). You are by no means alone in your pain.
