  • I have gone to nearby fast food places and given them food, but not money. If they have dogs with them, I will give them cans of dog food.
  • yes, i have...many times.
  • yes but usually I will try to buy them a meal before I would give them cash
  • Yes. I also asked once if they would like to do some yard work for money and a meal, and despite the sign he was holding (will work for food) he said no. I looked down and saw a pack of cigarettes and a tin of tobacco next to him (at least $8 worth of tobacco). It is frustrating that there are freeloaders out there posing as truly needy people... They do an injustice to those that are truly needy, and truly willing to work to better their situation.
  • No because I saw my grandmother do it once, and the guy turned right around and walked toward the liquor store.
  • No. I'll buy them a meal instead of giving cash.
  • No, I have not and I never will. Mind you I hate seeing people out of work, but I also feel that people need to really work hard in finding a job instead of asking for hand outs. In most areas, it's against the law. I know that it is here in Hemet, CA. Panhandling is forbidden and it you can get cited.
  • I did, until a local news channel did an expose` on some of the people and found out that several were making anywhere from $15,000 to $30,000 a year standing out there collecting money. It's unbelievable how lazy people can be. They also ruin it for the people who ARE actually injured, homeless, and can't work.
  • No, but when I have it, I will give the person what ever snack I have brought with me that day. There is one guy though that is always outside of this store by my house. He cleans the parking lot and in the winter he shovels the parking lot. He will pump air for your tires with out getting mad if you don't pay him. Once in a while i give him a dollor or two. I don't even care if he buys beer with it....at least he worked for it instead of just holding up a sign (he has no sign). The store owners don't mind him being there either, because he dosen't ask for anything.
  • No, because many of these people are scam artists. Many of them probably make a lot more than I do just by begging for money.
  • Yes, though I prefer to give food. My feeling, though, is that the Bible says that if we give a glass of water in Christ's name, it is as if we were giving it to Him. It doesn't say "A glass of water to somebody who is genuinely thirsty and incapable of getting it themselves." If I have it to spare, I try to help. If they use it wrongly, that's between them and God.
  • Yes I have. Nothing's good unless it's shared is my motto. Maybe some people really do not need the momey, but I like to think I could help someone really in need.
  • No. I refuse to give money to blatant liars. Now, if they were holding up a sign that said, "Screw working, just give me some $$ so I can get off this corner and start getting high," well, I still wouldn't give them any money but I would give them a horn toot for their honesty as I drive away.
  • I usually do.
  • As a pastor's wife, I have a lot of experience with people in need or claiming to be. We were warned very early not to give money, or, if you do, not to give more than a few dollars. My preference is, if people are saying they are hungry, to take them to a place and buy them a meal. If it is a family, we take food to them rather than give them money. In that way, we know the children eat. I love to share, too, but I think it is wrong to throw away money without thinking. A genuine person in need needs more than a few dollars. They need to be pointed in the direction of aid agencies who can help them get their life on course, and, as an immediate stop gap, they need to be bought food.
  • No too many scam artist out there. I was pissed off when I saw a dude doing that in front of McDonald's when they were hiring and I was passing by on my way to earn my own meager money for my OWN food.
  • Yes. I know there are a lot of scam artists and all... but I live in a community near a place known as "Tent Village" where a lot of genuinely homeless people live. Many of them are disabled veterans whom the government has screwed over in one way or another, refusing to give them veteran's benefits and whatnot. It's nearly impossible for a man with one leg and no college education to get a job in my area. I figure, I have a LOT of dollars, and that guy doesn't even have one. Even if he IS going to buy beer, if that beer's the only thing he's got, I can't begrudge him that. He's having a rougher life than I am.
  • I have watched them go to the liquor store and buy booze with my money. I have seen them go back into the store where I got them a sandwich...and they return it for refund to get cash to buy drugs. I have seen someone sell a jacket I just handed someone on a cool day.... So Never Again. BTW - they won't really work either.
