I completely agree! I do, though, think that people should be considerate of the people they are around...there's a right time and a wrong time! (Don't run around swearing in front of kids, for exa.) Everyone has an opinion and it's their opinion and voicing that opinion shouldn't bring punishment. People shouldn't get offended because someone has a different opinion than them.

It is one thing to be critical of our government it is entirely another to make comments that can be construed as a direct threat on the life of our president or any other government official freedom of speech does not cover the idiot who shortly after sadamm was hung went on a tirade against President Bush and said they hung the wrong man He deserved to be invewstigated by the fbi for making such an ignorant comment publicly It is fine to think that to yourself but when you speak something like that out loud you are asking to be locked up for making a threat against the life of the president even if it was a joke or you were just voicxing your opinion It is like the old Oliver Wendell Holmes argument of Freedom of Speech doesn't give you the right to yell fire in the middle of a crowded theater when there is no fire. Same rules apply hear if you are gonna be dumbass enough to make a comment that can be perceived as a threat against trhe life of the president be prepared to go to jailfor it and no I don't feel this way just because I am a Bush supporter and the threat was made against him. I would feel the same way if someone had made a comment like that about a president I didn't vot for and thought was doing a real shitty job. The bottom line is it is ok to disagree with how the president is running things but it is never ok to make comments that can be perceived as a threat on his life that my friends is not covered under the free speech clause of the constitution. Oh and I stand corrected the guy didn't verbally make that comment The dumbass was stupid enough to write a letter to president Bush criticizing him of his handleing of things right after Saddam was hung and that asswipe said right in the letter They hung the wrong man When they hung Saddam. Too bad there aren't laws in this country for being a dumbass He peobably would have gotten a life sentence

As you said, "Congress shall make no laws..." Congress hasn't made any laws, but that doesn't mean that I can't take offense at what you say. Rmember, it was the "court of public opinion" that forced Imus from his radio show

i agree with you, it is ok to disagree but not to punish someone because you disagree with them

While there is no retaliation from the government there may be social or cultural retaliations. Social/cultural taboos are a lot more effective in controlling people's speech than any law ever could be. I don't consider social punishment as unpatriotic but governmental punishment is.
