How can someone prevent others from violating the copyright of their work that is posted on the internet?

Before ever posting anything on the internet, do the following: take your work to a notary and have it signed. then, mail a certified letter to yourself, containing your original work. never open the letter. file it away in a bank lock box and forget it, until your work has been infringed upon. your unopened certified letter is the only evidence you will need in a court case. it has worked for me.
