I build my own PSs, too. Getting rid of viruses is a hard and dirty and time consuming job but it has to be done. They should send those virus makers to the moon without oxygen masks.

I don't run antivirus software, I take care of them myself. I have a quick and easy way to beat 90% of the viruses I come across... The ultimate key is to find the offending .dll files connected with the virus. I've only had to fight 2 viruses over the last 5 years, though, because I'm careful of where I click. Prevention is your biggest defense. *********Note*********** (Also... Windows gets more viruses because more people use it... In a vague analogy: If 90% the USA drove a Chevrolet, then there would be a lot more traffic accidents involving Chevrolets... When the use of Macs/Linux/AnyOS becomes more widely-used, then more viruses will be written to affect them)

I have afew times on my own computer and many times on others. I like to troubleshoot. Don't like anything getting the better of me. I have repaired, disinfected, formatted, reinstalled and built. I have saved myself, friends and family tons of bucks over the years. I have no formal training, just was extremely eager to learn and taught myself.
