If you invented a car that uses water as fuel and is entirely eco-friendly and a large oil company offered you £10 million ($20mill usd) for the patent as long as you kept quiet about your invention. What would you do? and why?

According to some conspiracy theorists, this has already happened. Their theory is that Big Oil doesn't want to give up its profits. I don't want to believe that, but I suppose anything is possible.

I sure wouldn't take the money or keep quiet. An invention like that is of infinite value, $20 mill isn't a fraction of what it would really be worth.

I would not take it as it would not be the honorable thing to do. Many of the worlds problems would be solved by such a car. However, it would be a huge battle Im sure to get in on the market, because the big 3 as well as oil companies would all fight it.

Everybody could be a winner in this scenario - as alot of people have said you could get way more than £10million for an invention of this scale. You could easily find a much higher bidder to buy the patent from you who would actually put the car into production. If the above wouldnt be feesiable, then yeah I'd probably take the money. The world is pretty naff place anyway so might as well have a bit more fun along the way. While we aren't helping, I cant help but think it is part of a natural cycle anyway. Recent floods in England were meant to be because of us, we were told they havent been this bad since the 1400's. What caused this is the 1400's then..

I'd never sell it to them because they would bury it. It's happened so many times before, even to my family, that incredible technologies have been so-called invested in and then bought from (stolen from is more like it) and then they do nothing with it, never releasing the documents) The greedy b*st*rds can just leave me alone. I would make it like Linux...Open source technology so everyone can do what they want with it, get as many people working on it to solve any bugs and make it something that can never be hidden and stopped. It's like using food (corn) as fuel, It's evil! It's cruel. Sure, they back it because they can now make money on it not because it's good for people.

I understand that this car already exists. If I had invented it, there would be no way on earth I would keep quiet about it, and no way I would sell out. I would go into production and advertise it like crazy.

It's really not enough money. I would have a film crew tape the whole negotiation process with the oil companies to prove to the world how they control the auto industry. I'm afraid they would have me executed for not accepting.
