  • I wouldn't say I'm afraid of being down rated. It's happens. What I dislike is having someone jump down my throat or cram their own opinion down my throat. I've had that happen in the past. I've learned that if I am to avoid this, then I need to avoid the controversial questions that open me up for attack.
  • Depends on the question. If it is asking for fact I try not to include my opinion at all and make sure my answer has empirical evidence to back it up. If it is something opinion based such as this question I am completely honest with my opinions and if i get down rated then that is just the publics way of saying they do not agree with my opinions.
  • I'd rather be frank than stuff questions with popular answers. :D
  • After the first downrating I kind of became immune. Say it like it is!
  • No, downrates tickle.
  • I often worry that I might offend somebody. I use to belong to another forum and people were extremely sensitive there. So far, people at answerbag seem to be pretty rational and allow me and others to express their opinions….I’ve always believe unpleasant honesty is better than self-righteous, “moral” lies….so I like this forum much better than many other forums.
  • I'm told I am too diplomatic sometimes, but that doesn't stop me from giving my honest opinion trying always to state that it's precisely that, MY opinion. Take it or leave it.
  • Nope. I've been downrated and it didn't hurt a bit.
  • I am annoyed by idiotic downrating - for expressing my opinion - but I continue to express my opinion in spite of the behavior...
  • Sometimes yes more bashed than down rate
  • Nope. I call 'em as I see 'em. I think people who downrate others dues to disagreement are weak and shallow. I think those who downrate without leaving an explanation are spineless.
  • No one would ask controversial questions, if there aren't people out there to answer with honesty. What's the point of asking a question if you aren't going to be honest.
  • I have no problem if someone down rates my answer. Thats what this site is about. What annoys me is if I express my opinion and then someone down rates me and doesn't have the courtesy to leave a comment and tell me why??
  • I'm not especially afraid of downrates, points aren't that big of a deal to me, they're about equivalent to someone commenting and saying "I disagree with you", which doesn't phase me in the slightest. What I'm more afraid of is getting into an unpleasant, time-consuming discussion with someone who tries to force their opinion on me and refuses to leave me alone until I roll over and agree with them (Which, in most cases, is *Not* going to happen). The downrates don't bother me, but those pointless arguments eat up valuable time that I could be using to answer more questions.
  • Absolutely.
  • Nope. A question was asked. If someone doesn't like the answer, not my problem.
  • Nope, but only because I'm a pain in the you know what.
  • yes there are times I avoid a question because I don t want to give my honest oppinion here and in real life.
  • Nope, I answer questions regardless of the points I think I'll receive or not receive. I don't have my ratings button on, anyway, so I don't know if I'm getting positive or negative ratings unless I go back to that answer because of a comment.
  • I just answer and ask if they down rate thats their opinion.
  • I tend to stay away from political questions. That's where I have experienced the most down ratings.
  • I answer wether I know I'll get downrated or not. If You're afraid to speak your mind you no longer have freedom of speech do you?
  • Nope.... I just say it as it is..
  • no..I am not here for the points.
  • I may have felt that way at one time, though I would still answer and what I found was if I was polite and kind, even if it was the unpopular answer, it was okay. I didn't write, "oh well, here come the DRs". I just wrote honestly and politely, hopefully clearly. And people are okay with that and seem to respect you for it. But if you walk into a question with a chip on your shoulder it's not so smooth and gets a bit rocky.
  • nope, i am me and i am not here to kiss anyone's rump so you will get the unadulterated version of my thoughts and if you don't like them... feel free to downrate by the way there is an h in front of onest
  • I answer as truthful as possible and many don't seem to like that much, but OH! well!
  • I'm always happy to get downrated! It is my motivation in life.
  • I thought the whole point to answering questions is to give your opinion; not to see what others' opinions are of your answers. If you are honest with yourself, who are strangers to tell you if your feelings are right or wrong?
  • I answer anyway lol
  • Nope! With the way AB is, if I don't get DRd at least once per answer/question, I feel like I am not being honest enough. Too many people on AB are real jackasses. It is kinda sad that I have grown to expect BS from people on here that much.
  • I try to avoid MOST religious questions as I am really not religious and have some Ideas about the whole thing that would upset the overly religious people XD
  • lol...lol NO!!... I'm in boots and all :):), like my profile says 'no bullshit or sugar coating'
  • Not usually, but sure enough, I do get downrated for my opinion. Maybe they should add to the questions, if you don't have "___" opinion, don't bother to answer.
  • No. Some people will downrate just about anything: honest, dishonest, good question, bad question, good answer, bad answer, etc. I have received so many downrates in the past. Those will not stop me from giving honest answers.
