UK teachers pay rates have significantly increased over the past ten years. I think that, if there is more money, it would be better put into more teachers than to paying the ones there more.

We need to make standards to become a teacher much higher, and the pay much greater. I don't want some guy that can barely stay a chapter ahead of the kids teaching my kids anything.

If the teacher is good they should be paid a lot more. The teachers union however, has ruined this idea. They protect the imbeciles at the expense of the good ones. Get rid rid of the union and test the teachers.

For some good insight look up sites pertaining to "NYC Rubber Rooms".

I know high school teachers that make $75,000 a year -- thats not exactly struggling... I know very well what goes into being a teacher (I live with one). In an ideal world, we should ALL be paid more.. but I think that, at least in this state, a good teacher is paid enough to live on..and those that want more use time during the summer to expand their income doing other things.

    Yes!
Although the workplace reform has changed a lot of what we have to do as teachers (in UK), I still find that I am working for an average of 13-15 hours a day. VLE has not really helped - it just gives me more opportunity to work for longer hours at home as well as at work.

I think they are paid enough considering the effort they put in.Before empathizing them, let's analyze what they do.Besides some rare exceptions, most of them work only 2 to 3 hours atmax 5 hours a day while people in other field have to slog a minimum of 8 hours in order to stay in business.
The teacher's room is the common meeting place for gossips for them.Sadly, most of them forget what for they are in school and carry on with their personal stuffs more than doing what they are supposed to do.The knowledge level has gone down comparing the previous generation of teachers who were intellectuals. Now a days those who don't get a decend job anywhere else, join this profession and laze around all day.
Finally the time of summer holidays when students get a long vaccation, they have absolutely no work to do and pushed into disguised unemployment while being paid the full salary.Would any other Job give you the same liberty.
To be honest I dont have empathy for them ,instead I would empathize a bartender who works 10 hours a day and charged equivalent to 5 hours of his day's effort because an a**hole got pissed off by his service or he broke a wine glass.
Forget 2 months of vaccation,if he don't do 2 hours of service properly, the days of strvation would start from next day onwards.
It's not the teachers, but people like Armymen and labourers would be paid more because they deserve it.

Teachers are being given a lot of extra work recently. Some people (maybe foreigners) want teachers to complain loudly about all the extra work. I suspect “they” are manipulating minds so that teachers have to spend a lot more time doing the things that burn them out. Consequently these teachers and their unions who are able to manipulate the minds of many are asking for more money.
Also I notice that teachers who are spending all of this extra time actually seem to be enabling students. I notice that students are starting out better at the beginning of the year and then are finding friends in teachers who will support some of their tendencies to be mischievous, and to get by with some slacking excuses.
If I am right and if teachers wages are to be raised significantly, it should be determined who is behind this and they should pay for it.
