Why are kids right know 2000's 9-14 yr olds get worse grades in school than 9-14 yr old in the 70's 80's?

I blame myspace. Not really but it shows that kids these days are focused more on the superficial and who Paris Hilton is bonking than their work.

well there is much more distraction for them. they have all these video games and computers and cell phones that keep them from studying but i wouldnt say that there doing bad in school. -
This is an evolving problem. In the 18th and 19th Century, we had geniuses and prodigies, because there were less distractions, and more desire to learn and educate oneself. Nowadays, we have computers, television, telephones, Myspace, Facebook, text messaging, and so and so forth, that distracts one from learning. I think that this ALL adds to the downfall of American education.

Maybe if parents started being parents, this wouldn't be a problem.
