I don't know if it is sexism or just pre-conceived stereotypes, but I often have to prove myself above and beyond others in my field to get and keep respect due to my gender.

It does, I suppose, as I don't have a girlfriend.

Yes. I'm not saying that being a woman carries a heavier burden than being a man, but its problems are unique. First of all, for some reason all of the women I know have had lots of trouble finding jobs right out of college, whereas my male friends find jobs within a couple of months. I genuinely don't think my male friends are any more driven or talented than my female friends. Also, it's well known that in the U.S. men still get paid something like 19% (I'm not sure if that figure is correct) higher than the females doing the exact same job. Some men just feel like they can treat women like dogs. I've had men treat me horribly rude, simply because I am woman. Some still think that women are like children or should be seen but not heard, but I burst that bubble ...

Demands for my services for favors sometimes has me saying no to the ladies.

I sometimes feel like I have to work harder to prove my intelligence because I'm female. It's not a big issue, and it only happens sometimes, but occasionally in a group of guys having a "serious" discussion I feel as if they don't quite take my opinions as seriously as they would another guy's.

I found that, like the other posters said, I always had to prove myself in a converation with 4 other guys. It took a year before they learned to listen to me. Also being rejected from soccer and sport teams as a young child because I was a girl and the other boys wouldn't play with a girl. They couldn;t use the strength issue at the time because we were only 6. It continued for years. Now I hold a resentment to all the people who were sexist towards me and i think its unhealthy for any child to hold any resemtment. One of the negatives of discrimination I guess.

Yes. When I meet men I feel instantly judged on my appearance. I know this happens to men too, but I don't think it's as common for a mans entire worth to be summed up in how they look. That's maybe a bit extreme, but is how I am sometimes made to feel.
