  • The famous "crick in the neck" caper huh? Actually, the muscles in the neck support a weight of your head, which can weigh 15 to 30 pounds. If we don't exerise our neck properly, or quickly move the wrong way, it can stress the muscles supporting the neck. A very good hint besides anti inflamatory drugs is to rely on the old fashion rolling pin. Put lotion on your neck and have someone roll up and down the large muscles along your neck. If you don't have a rolling pin, you can use use a roud smooth plastic bottle or such. Sharon Pennington
  • http://sportscenteraustin.blogs.com/the_view/2005/10/a_crick_in_the_.html this sports web sit says to NOT strech it, because a 'crick' is a streched muscle in your neck. streching it makes it worse.
  • Go to a chiropractor.
  • many possibilities, old injuries which have developed into degenerative conditions ie: degenerative disc, or osteophytes (small protrusions of bone at the site of an old sprain/strain), congenital malformations, a recent injury that has now become symptomatic...on and on, best thing to do is get a diagnosis from a doctor who sees a lot of cervical spines in their practice, just going to a GP, doesn't mean your problem has been addressed, and to simply take anti inflam. and/or pain meds wont fix your problem...pain is an indicator that something is not right, it is not an indicator that you are "low" on tylenol or some other med. • I got a horrible crick in my neck from stretching my trapezius/upper back. Be very careful not to pull a stretch too far. I had the crick for at least a week.
  • Cricks in the neck are caused by poor pillow support, with a little added stress from the day. You may not notice it at first, but after a stressful day you tend to seek comfort without being aware. Most of the time it is the pillows... we pile them up or we ly on them different. The results is a crick. I use a magnetic roll out bar by Nikken. The crick is kneeded out within 15-20 min, and sometimes longer, but it is quick. The pain is aleviated, - some soreness, but you can move it around. Magnetics?... don't ask... they just work. I stopped trying to figure it out. I have had knots on my back, muscle spasms, etc. and this tool is more than paid for itself. Salsa4Fitness.com
