Where does the plasma tv get its name? I can only associate plasma with blood so I wonder where plasma fits into the 'picture'?

Plasma is a form of matter, it is a super heated gas like state. It is quite complicated tbh so I would point you in the direction of a dictionary or a science reference book for a more detailed answer. Blood plasma is completely diffrent and not real plasma at all.
