Music is not stored in the program Windows Media - Windows media builds a library (lets call them links) to where ever you have that music stored - usually My documents My music. Itunes has an option to search your computer for media (music, videos, blah) and it can create an Itune folder where all of that music is copied to. My Doc/My Music/Itune. Playlists do not import/export between the two. Think of it this way, one speaks Greek, the other speaks German - they can not communicate. The two systems are not compatible. Itunes will not play Windows Media files (I believe the extension is .ma more or less) it will convert those into mp3 or mp4 (Itunes media market). In Itunes, in the menu bar slect advanced and click on consolidate library. What will happen is Itunes will copy all of your music into the itunes folder, making changes where needed. It can be a very long process if you have lots of music (I have 7.2 GB it took a couple of hours the first time I consolidated).

From ITUNES, go to FILE then to ADD FOLDER TO LIBRARY. Navigate to the WMA files you wish to import to ITunes and select the folder you wish to convert. When you do this, the program will convert the songs to the Itunes .m4a format. For me, this means I first rip a cd in Media Player and then if I want it in ITUNES, I can either convert it as above or with the disc, allow ITUNES to import the cd and convert simultaneously. Either method is equally fast.
