  • they want you to take those Bibles - do whatever you want with them
  • Apparently the mere mention of the thought of such a thing is abhorrent, if not illegal... I shall answer my own question then I guess... It's probably theft though they 'are' free... They are also made from very light paper - thus they burn too fast to be used for proper warmth, and it's light paper... thus not very usable for 'hygiene'. You people who rate me down could have just told the truth instead of being malicious you know ; ) *shrugs* Whatever rubs your Buddha though right?
  • Forget legal....what about getting sinned for the action...
  • Technically, it is theft, however, it is seldom reported as theft and even more rarely investigated ... many Christians donate funds to make those Bibles available, and they are actually pleased when someone takes one. a) not much profit in just one or two, and mass taking (pun) would be a crime that would actually get investigated, they would hunt you down and stop you. b)again, you would need many "logs" worth of Bibles to get sufficient heat, and again "mass taking" would be investigated. c)you could wipe or blow with pages torn from a Bible, but they are just not very absorbent paper sheets. ... you could probably get away with taking only a few every year, reading out loud from it on the street for coins (in a mostly Christian area) & selling them for enough to buy toilet paper for the year.
  • They are there if you need them. I've never heard it said that starting a fire or whatever wasn't a reason, though I doubt that is what the Gideon's Bible Society had in mind but I know they come by and check to see if bibles need replacement. It's okay to take them. No one will call the bible police after you. As to what your conscience will do, you'd know that better than me.
  • It's perfectly fine to take the Bibles (I used to help put them there). If you intend to use it maliciously or destroy it, then it is an indicator of your real character, since you are showing what you will do when you know no one can find you out. However, they cannot be sold and are so noted on the cover pages. And although I totally disagree with the book of Mormon and believe Mormonism to be a cult, I would encourage you to leave that in the drawer as well unless you intend to use it constructively.
