  • It's determined state-by-state but generally yes.
  • I don't think so, but it could certainly be dangerous... Maybe some places make it illegal though, for similar reasons as using a mobile phone, or because it means you can't hear anything happening around you (car speakers still let you hear what's happening around you, ear buds inside a car would probably mean you can't hear anything outside...)
  • i dont know if its illegal but its definitly not a wise idea. you wont be able to hear horns, sirens, or anything like that. thats why theres no ear plug jack on car radios too.
  • State laws vary, but certainly in most it is illegal to drive with headphones of any kind. The reasons should be pretty obvious.
  • yes, they made these laws back in the 80's when walkmans came out
  • When you plug your ears (effectively) with iPod headphones while driving, you loose one of your 5 senses. You can still see, feel, etc. However, that police car behind you? You won't hear it. That person honking at you to warn you of impending danger? You won't hear it. That fire truck coming to your smoking wreck of a vehicle? You won't hear it. That insurance policy you thought had you covered? Yeah...that iPod just got a whole lot more expensive. Add to that the tickets. Spend $5, plug it into the stereo and do it legally. It's scary that people even contemplate deafening themselves while piloting a 4000lbs vehicle and think it would be safe...nevermind legal. Yes, it is illegal and yes, it is very stupid to try.
  • Today I was driving with one ear bud in and didn't even think about it being illegal. It just seemed like common sense not put both of them in my ears.
