Why do drivers not use the cruise control feature, on their automobile? it saves gasoline and a speeding citation.

Speeding Citations..yes...gas no......it actually burns up more fuel trying to stay at a constant speed...especially uphills and downhills.

I do use it, as much as possible, for the very 2 reasons you mentioned! (Obviously, it's not helpful in heavy traffic or city driving.)

I don't know. I know my grandmother is under the impression that it's bad for your car, and some cars, the feature is A: expensive and people don't want to pay, or B: so damn hard to figure out, it's just not worth the time. I love my cruise control and will never have another car that doesn't have it. I bet it's saved me from a speeding ticket so many times. I set it for 5 mile over and just relax.

My mother always told me not to use it...something about not paying attention, or was it that you're more likely to fall asleep when you use it?

Maybe if they are aware of the two reasons you give for using it, they might just use it. :-)
