  • I think you should tell the people who love you. Maybe you are concerned that it will be too painful to your mother to find out you have schizophrenia, but as a mom I'd much rather know what is going on. Schizophrenia is a challenge for everyone who has it, and those who love you can help you through the rough times. If you shut them out and isolate yourself from their love, you're eliminating a powerful force to help you live a balanced and fulfilling life. Sometime soon, when you and your mom have time for just the two of you, tell her you would welcome her support and love because you recently learned you have schizophrenia. Have some literature with you for her to read, and explain the medications you are taking and how they affect you. Just open up about it. It's never easy to tell people something like this, but I hope you will do it.
  • I'm gonna sound really stupid, I'm not gonna be able to help you out at all, but what does schizophrenic mean?
  • why would you not tell your mom? I would. In all fairness, if you are talking to people that arn't there and having hallucinations then she probebly knows already, and just hasn't said anything.
  • Unless you are not around your mom much...I am sure she has an idea. Yes you should tell her.
  • I agree with someone else who posted if you are really severely schizophrenic, the people who tell you that you are or maybe schizo are part of some plot to get you committed or lobotomized because "you know too much"... at least is the case with my schizo mom. It's good if you have a proper diagnoses and are responsible enough to admit it is an illness you have, and it can be treated. Honesty is huge you should be commended, not condemned. Undiagnosed and untreated mental illness can cause major heartache for those loved ones who deal with them. Surely your mom would be relieved to know what is up with you? If you are close, you probably don't want to freak her out by describing your symptoms in too much detail but just say you were feeling weird, and got checked out and that was the diagnosis. Then charge forward with a treatment plan, you'll be doing fine.
  • I'm in the same position but i think i'm going to do it. Good lucky to you.
