I think that capital punishment is possibly a deterrent for some criminals, but not all. I believe it should probably be reserved for repeat offenders of violent crimes. In which case, there's less chance of an innocent person being executed. But at the same time, I think executing repeat offenders of violent crimes would get some dangerous people off the streets making the world a litter safer.

It doesn't matter if it makes society a better place. This is the punishment for certain crimes, so be it!

Since I call it taking out the trash you bet I do. We are removing those indiviuals who have shown a complete inabilty to act as a human being. And it shows that on occasion our justice system does protect the helpless and mete out the proper punishment to fit the crime. There's a reson why our socity is as far off course as it is and it's because our values are all screwed up on stuff like this. We think that by being against the death penalty that some how makes us better when all it does is show how we have forgotten the true meaning of crime and punishment. There can be no compasion in the punishment of the guilty. That should be for the victem. I never beleved that Vultare (I think it was him) meant that a socity is only as compassionate as it treats it's crimilnals when he said "You can judge a socilty on how it treats it's criminals." I always took it as him saying you can tell the level of civility in our ability to remove and properly deal with those found guilty.

America has the best judicial system on the planet. It may not be perfect, but it beats anything else out there. Lets face it, a person who commits a homicide and found guilty by a jury of his peers, should be sentenced to death. It saves the states money and eliminates one criminal from creating the same offense, again. Payback is hell and especially so in this situation.
