  • Charity will always be a necessity, especially with consumerism being as powerful as it is. However, the existence of charity is no reason for governments to slack off on their public funding.
  • Absolutely not. Having just come through one of the worst disasters in US history, I have seen the undeniable need for charity and philanthropy. We would still be stuck in muck and debris if not for the voluntary efforts of the philanthropic people here and throughout the country. Many people would have starved if we had to wait on government intervention and most of the people who were stranded in the New Orleans area would have died if volunteers hadn't rescued them. People are capable of instantly coming to the aid of victims while the government is incapable of doing anything quickly or efficiently.
